This website is under development by the Chiricahua Apache Prisoner of War Committee, which consists of direct descendants of Chiricahua Apache prisoners of war. We all are enrolled members of the Mescalero Apache Tribe of New Mexico and our Committee is authorized by the Mescalero Apache Tribe’s President, Vice President, and Tribal Council.
This website belongs exclusively to the Chiricahua Apache Prisoner of War Committee and the Mescalero Apache Tribe. Materials from this website may not be used without written permission of the Committee and Tribe. All audio and video files are copyrighted by the Mescalero Apache Tribe.
Our intention in putting together this website is to present our version, an Apache version, of Chiricahua Apache Prisoner of War history. Over the next few months, we will be adding extensive materials to the website. Such materials will include photographs, maps, a detailed time line, excerpts from relevant historical documents, and a comprehensive bibliography. We also will add many audio and video files consisting mostly of interviews with descendants of Chiricahua Apache prisoners of war. Especially in these interviews will be found Apache interpretations of the prisoner of war experience and of the consequences for our people of the federal government’s policies and actions.
We encourage visitors to our website to return often to see new materials. We will do our best to keep you interested.
